Santa Clarita, CA -- The Fresno Pacific women's soccer team made it seven wins in-a-row Tuesday afternoon in Santa Clarita with a 2-1 comeback over #13 The Master's (8-1-1). Senior forward Ashley Sherr scored the game winning goal in the 84th minute off a Diana Ortega corner, and provided the assist for the Sunbird's equalizer scored by freshman Demi Hamilton in the 76th minute.

In recording the goal and assist, Sherr now becomes the all-time career points leader in FPU history with 30 goals and 18 assists for a total of 78 points.

With the win, the Sunbirds improve to 2-0 in GSAC play (7-1 overall) and hand the nationally ranked Mustangs their first loss of the season.

It was an even matchup from the opening kickoff with both teams playing to a scoreless 0-0 first half, and each side recording 7 shots apiece in the period.

The Master's would put FPU under more pressure to open the second half and were rewarded for their hard work in the 64th minute when sophomore Robyn Estrada netted after a great individual effort.

The Sunbirds were quick to react after conceding the goal and immediately created a few chances, one of which resulted in an FPU penalty kick. Fresno Pacific sophomore Jalyssa Slocum was fouled in the box after making a brilliant run with the ball down the left flank, but the Sunbirds were unable to capitalize.

Senior Mayra Garcia stepped up to take the kick, but sent the ball just wide-left of the goal leaving the Sunbirds still behind with time running out.

"We thought our chance of getting back into the match may have passed us by with the missed penalty," FPU head coach Erik Farfan conveyed. "Oddly enough, it seemed to fire us up a bit and we played a fantastic final 20 minutes to pull this one out."

"To show the type of resilience and character we did today against a quality opponent like The Master's is very encouraging," Farfan added.

The Sunbirds put their record seven game win streak on the line again this weekend as they travel to face Concordia of Irvine Saturday afternoon.
