THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Fresno Pacific (5-2) opened the first day of the Cal Lutheran Tournament 2-0, but failed to carry their momentum into the second day finishing 2-2 on the weekend.  The Sunbirds defeated La Verne 17-6 and Cal Lutheran 11-10 in sudden death overtime.  Unfortunately, the Sunbirds came back the second day falling 9-3 to Whittier and 8-12 to Claremont.

The most exciting game came against Cal Lutheran as the Sunbirds trailed 5-9 after the third quarter.  The Sunbirds outscored Cal Lutheran 4-1 in the fourth to take the game into overtime.  Both teams scored one goal apiece in overtime, but the Sunbirds found the back of the cage first in sudden death overtime to take the win 11-10.

Glenn Lyon led the Sunbirds on the weekend with 11 goals for the tournament.  Nick Fadden followed with nine goals of his own on the weekend.  Both players had four-goal games.  Fadden put up four goals in their 8-12 loss against Claremont while Lyon had four goals in the Sunbirds 17-6 win over La Verne.

Last year the Sunbirds went 1-2 in the Cal Lutheran Tournament and were 4-3 at this point in the year.  The Sunbirds will take on Merced next on Wednesday, September 23.  Last season the Sunbirds defeated Merced in both their meetings.  The first sprint in scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
