Fresno Pacific Men Perform Well at Ojai Tournament

VENTURA, CA – Maxime Adam’s 7-5, 7-6 (5) upset win over 8th-seeded Rajko Mladenovic (Hope University) was Friday’s match of the day at the 109th Ojai Tennis Tournament at the Pierpont Racquet Club.

 

Vicente Joli and Alex Gonzalez also won on day one of the Men’s Independent College event at “The Ojai.”

 

The 3rd-seeded Joli powered his way past Grand Canyon’s Brian Kirby 6-2, 6-2.

 

Gonzalez, seeded sixth, hacked his way to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Biola’s Weston Leopold.

 

After shocking Mladenovic 7-5 in the first set, Adam led the second set 3-1 but soon found himself down 3-5 before rallying to force a tiebreaker.  He then pulled out a 7-5 victory to complete the upset.

 

In the opening round of doubles action, the top seeded team of Gonzalez and Joli breezed past Whittier’s Ridge Easton and Denis Minaev 6-2, 6-0.

 

The 6th-seeded team of Adam and Foelz won 6-3, 6-1 over Concordia’s Olivier Fabre and Bruno Santarelli.

 

Tournament play continues Saturday at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club beginning at 8:00am.
