Mobile, AL – For the fourth straight year, the No. 2 Lady Sunbirds will play for a national championship.
Fresno Pacific (24-1) stopped unseeded Lindsey Wilson College 5-0 in a NAIA national semifinal on Friday at the Mobile Tennis Center.
The Lady Sunbirds will face No. 1 seed Auburn University-Montgomery for the national title.
AUM advanced to the title match with a 5-0 win over No. 4 Concordia.
The Lady Sunbirds have been denied a NAIA tennis championship the past three years at the hands of the Lady Senators. AUM defeated Fresno Pacific 5-1 in last year’s final.
Once again, strong doubles play was a big part in the Lady Sunbirds’ road to the final. A 3-0 doubles sweep was led by Elizabeth McFeeters and Brittany Salley at No. 3 as they disposed of Lindsey Wilson’s Agnieszka Wojtowicz and Lindsey Sheene 8-0.
In singles, Fresno Pacific had little trouble in advancing to their fourth consecutive final. Yulia Blinovskaya ran past Darya Yablonskaya 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4, while Salley clinched the team victory with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Lindsey Sheene.
Fresno Pacific will try to end a six year championship run by AUM. The Lady Senators are looking for their 10th overall national title.
