FRESNO, CA. - It was announced Tuesday that FPU junior guard James Lewis was named as an NAIA First-Team All-American, while junior forward Todd Brown received Third-Team All-American honors. Senior forward/guard Marcus West was also recognized with an Honorable Mention.
"It is a great honor to have three All-Americans named from this year's team, "commended FPU second-year head coach Jim Saia. "They're all extremely deserving of this recognition and this is a great tribute to the players and this Program. It is also an indication of how far we have come in two years."
James Lewis led the Sunbirds this year in scoring with 637 points for the season and averaged a team high 19.3 points per game. Lewis was named GSAC Player of the Week and was selected as the GSAC Player of the Year.
Todd Brown shot 66/139 (47.5%) from three-point distance to lead the orange and blue this season in the category, and was a key contributor to the Sunbird's offense averaging 13.7 points per game.
Marcus West was second in scoring for Fresno Pacific this season with 541 points and averaged of 16.4 points per game. West was also named GSAC Player of the Week.
The Sunbirds had a historic season, during which Coach Saia led Fresno Pacific to a record setting run capped off by the Sunbirds winning their first Conference title since the 1994-95 campaign. In addition to the unprecedented awards, recognitions, and honors this year’s FPU squad received, the team also set a number of program records including; most single-season wins (26), highest national ranking (#6), longest winning streak (14 games), and most points scored in a single game (122).
