FRESNO, CA. – The Sunbird women’s basketball team faced a tough Fresno State squad Wednesday evening at the Save Mart Center, losing to the two-time defending WAC Champions 57-30.
The Bulldogs started the game off strong putting the Sunbirds under intense pressure during the majority of the first period limiting FPU to shoot 3-18 (16.7%) from the field to end the opening half. Fresno State was 13-34 (38.2%) from the field, 3-17 (17.6%) from 3-point range, and led at the break 31-13.
FPU improved statistically in the second half to shoot 6-17 (35.3%) from the field, 2-4 (50%) from behind the arc, and was 3-6 (50%) from the line, but the Bulldogs proved too much to handle in the end.
Fresno Pacific’s Kelly Thompson led the Sunbirds in scoring with 7 points and grabbed 6 boards on the night, while the Fresno State’s Jaleesa Ross led the Bulldogs with 11 points and snagged 11 rebounds.
