DAVIS, Calif. – Fresno Pacific men’s swimming had a big task in their first dual meet of the season against a strong NCAA Div. I UC Davis squad. The Sunbirds took six events on the day while the Aggies finished with ten victories. The Sunbirds fell 125-167.
Carl Weigley led the Sunbirds with three victories in the 50 freestyle (21.47), 100 freestyle (47.28) and the 100 butterfly (53.36). Weigley battled out his victory in the 100 freestyle coming back on Davis’ Russell Underwood to win by one-hundredth of a second.
Erik Thiessen took the 200 individual medley (1:59.84) and Bart Kelly won the 100 breaststroke (58.65).
Coach Peter Richardson commented, “It’s great to get a meet against such a strong team, and our guys did a great job hanging-in the entire meet.”
The Sunbirds will take their experience against one Big West team to take on another against University of Pacific next weekend on Saturday, November 21 at 12 noon. The Sunbirds will also take on UC Santa Cruz. The men and women will come together for their first dual meet together this season.
