FULLERTON, Calif. – Fresno Pacific (26-0, 15-0 GSAC) won another GSAC match to move to 15-0 in the conference. Their most recent win came over Hope International (6-20, 2-13 GSAC). The Sunbirds were pushed in the second set, but took the match 25-14, 29-27 and 25-12.
Lisa Shilling led the Sunbirds with 10 kills while
Martina Gregusova and Keke Wang followed with 9 and 7 kills, respectively.
Emily Carroll contributed 32 assists in the Sunbirds' win.
Mariah Mandelbaum had 16 digs to lead the match.
Coach Dennis Janzen commented, “It’s always good to get a GSAC win on the road. However, we’re still learning to have a consistent effort, but we are heading in the right direction.”
The Sunbirds had eight errors in the second set where they were pushed 29-27 before they could pull out the victory to go up 2-0. Despite Fresno Pacific’s lowest hitting percentage in the final set (.152) and five errors, the Sunbirds held Hope to only 12 points and a negative hitting percentage to close out the match.
The Sunbirds will look to have a more consistent effort on Saturday, October 31 when they take on No. 4 Concordia in Fresno. In their first meeting this season the Sunbirds swept the Eagles on the road. The match will begin at 3 p.m.
