LA MIRADA, CA. – The Fresno Pacific women’s soccer team fell to Biola University 2-1 Tuesday afternoon in a Golden State Athletic Conference matchup. After conceding an early goal and coming back to tie it at 1-1 apiece, the Sunbirds allowed the game to slip away when Biola’s Samantha David scored the game winner in the 86th minute to give the Eagles the 2-1 win.
Biola’s Ashley Moseley put the Eagles ahead in the 8th minute after receiving a cross from David which she then one-touched past FPU goalkeeper Catherine Michaelis into the left-hand corner of the Sunbird net.
The Eagles continued to put Fresno Pacific under pressure during the first half of play outshooting the Sunbirds 6-3, while FPU had a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. The period would end with the Eagles leading 1-0.
Fresno Pacific regrouped to open the second half and finally equalized in the 61st minute.
FPU junior Jessica Pereschica pressured a back pass intended for Biola goalkeeper Erin Frushon who slipped after receiving the ball. Pereschica was then able to strip the ball from Frushon and scored on a wide open goal to make it a 1-1 affair.
Despite the FPU equalizer, Biola’s David had the last say after converting the game winning goal which was delivered by teammate Ashley Moseley on a through ball.
With the loss, the Sunbirds fall to 9-4 overall (4-3 GSAC) and will host #5 Vanguard this Saturday, October 24th at FPU’s Ramirez field. Kickoff is scheduled for 5pm.
